On Saturday, November 12, 2011, the Truman State University Communication Disorders Department invites you to attend a public Open House of our brand new clinical facility. From 2-4pm tours will be given and light refreshments provided, with remarks at 3pm. Please join us in celebrating the new Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic and the start of our 50th anniversary celebration!
The Truman State University Communication Disorders Department will be hosting a Graduate Student Open House from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2001, in the Health Sciences Building-Classroom 2203. All prospective students interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Truman are invited to attend. Information regarding the CMDS graduate program, the profession, employment opportunities, and funding for graduate school will be provided along with the opportunity to meet faculty, alumni, and students of the program. As of August, 2011 the Communication Disorders department and the Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic reside in the new Health Sciences building. We are still settling into our new state of the art teaching and clinical facilities. Below is a photo of the new Early Literacy Lab and clinic lending library.

Ms. Melissa Passe, Ms. Andrea Richards, and Dr. Janet Gooch will attend the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association [ASHA] Convention [November 17-19, 2011] inSan Diego,California. While at the ASHA Convention, Ms. Passe, Ms. Richards, and Dr. Gooch will be staffing a faculty recruitment booth.
The Communication Disorders Department has organized a “Study Hall for Success” for Communication Disorders [CMDS] majors. The “Study Hall” is staffed by CMDS graduate students and is available to any CMDS student who needs a quiet place to study or needs assistance with coursework in CMDS. Study Hall meets every Monday evening from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in HS 2203.
Margaret “Maggie” Hilliard and Grace Strube, CMDS graduate students, along with Dr. Janet Gooch are presenting “Assessing the Effectiveness of a Student-Initiated Course” and “An Integrated Teacher Development Model for Future Instructors” at the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference, October 20 through 23, 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Truman Communication Disorders faculty has begun an i-Pad initiative designed to reduce the use of paper in clinical management. Six faculty are using i-Pads regularly to assist in clinical supervision.
