Janet Gooch, Associate Professor, joined the faculty in January, 1995. Dr.
Gooch assumed the responsibilities of CMDS department chair as of Fall
Semester, 2004. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from
the University of
Dr. Gooch was a 2003 recipient of a William O’Donnell Lee Advising Award from Truman State University. She frequently advises the research projects of McNair Scholars who are majoring in Communication Disorders. In 2008 she was named Outstanding Student Research Mentor at Truman, as well as the recipient of the prestigious Allen Fellowship.
Dr. Gooch specializes in child phonology and oro-facial anomolies such as cleft palate. In addition to acting as a clinical supervisor, Dr. Gooch has taught a wide variety of courses including introductory courses in communication disorders and sign language, as well as advanced courses in diagnostics, phonological disorders and oro-facial anomolies.
From 1995 to 2002, she served as faculty advisor to the Communication Disorders Association (CoDA),which is Truman's chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Gooch co-chaired the program committee of the 2001 Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association Annual Convention, and served as the MSHA Vice President for Legislative Affairs. She has been the coordinator for Student Presentations at the Missouri Speech-Language Hearing Association convention from 2003 to the present.
Dr. Gooch has served on the Kirksville R-III School Board since the spring of 2001.
Dr. Gooch, her husband Rick, and daughter Olivia received two holiday gifts when Ethan Charles and Andrew Richard were born on December 16, 1999 (See family photo below).

Dr. Gooch's hobbies include biking, running, and cooking. She runs, swims,
and bikes several times a week and in fall 2003, she competed in her first
triatholon!
