
Mary Barbara Kline, assistant professor emeritus, taught at Truman for more
than 20 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University
and her Master's Degree from Truman (formerly, Northeast Missouri State
University). Ms. Kline retired from Truman in the summer of 2003 She moved to
Indianapolis where she married Michael Carpentier.
In honor of Ms. Kline and her contributions to the CMDS program at Truman, the
M. Barbara Kline Humanitarian Award was inaugurated in spring, 2003. The first
recipient, elected by the vote of CMDS graduate and undergraduate students, was
Heather Brady Mraz. This award is supported through donations to the
Communication Disorders Development Fund.
Ms. Kline’s main areas of interest in communication disorders continue to be
adult articulation, dysphagia, and fluency. She provided clinical supervision
and taught classes in Phonetics, Dysphagia, and Principles of Clinical
Management. In addition, she chaired the program's Honors and Awards committee
and maintained alumni records for many years. In recent years, Ms.Kline served
as the faculty sponsor for the Greek Christian Association (GCA) on campus.
