Speech and Hearing Clinic:
Other Communication Disorders Facilities

McGuire Media Center
The McGuire Media Center houses tests and therapy materials for clinicians' use. It also contains a well organized library of books, professional periodicals, and guides to various communication disorders. There are large tables and chairs at which clinicians develop lesson plans, write daily logs, gather and make materials for therapy, and discuss their ideas with other clinicians.

Clinical Computing Lab
This lab gives students easy access to computer applications for clinical use and assistive technology for adapting access to computers. Truman maintains an outstanding collection of clinical software. The purpose of this lab is to provide a place for students to learn about and prepare for using a computer with clients in the clinic (other labs on campus are for general purpose word processing, e-mail, etc.). The computers are a mix of Macintosh and Windows platforms. Most of the computers and printers are on carts that allow student clinicians to move them into the therapy rooms, which occurs many times a day.

Speech and Hearing Science Lab
The Speech and Hearing Science Lab houses equipment for voice and speech analysis as well as augmentative/alternative communication resources. A  Visi-Pitch IV (voice and speech) and Nasometer (resonance/nasality) from KayPENTAX  are available for clinic and classroom use. Several visual biofeedback tools are routinely used in speech and voice therapy, such as the IBM SpeechViewer. In the photo above, student clinicians learn to use speech recognition software.
